Stretch Mark & Scar Reduction

Stretch marks are a very common form of scarring that can affect both men and women of all ages. In simple terms, they are caused when the dermis, which is the layer that sits between the epidermis and subcutaneous tissues, is torn. Whilst in some cases stretch marks can reduce over time, they will never disappear altogether.

Stretch marks often arise when the skin is stretched by rapid growth or rapid weight changes, but they can also be influenced by hormonal changes and can appear on any part of the body. The most common areas are the stomach, thighs and breasts.

Depending on severity and visibility, stretch marks can often cause severe body insecurity, which can lead to emotional and psychological stress, low self-esteem and relationship problems.

Frequently asked questions about stretch mark & scar reduction treatment

What does stretch mark & scar reduction treatment involve?

This type of laser and light treats minute sections of the skin by penetrating into the dermis to stimulate significant collagen renewal.  The surrounding non-affected areas of the skin aid the body’s natural recovery process for dramatic results without significant recovery time.  As the new collagen filled cells replace the old tissue the skin takes on an even tone, becomes plumper, smoother and less lined.

How is stretch mark & scar reduction treatment carried out?

The laser and light applicator is placed on the affected area with deep penetration in the skin. The process is repeated until the entire affected area is treated.

Am I suitable for stretch mark & scar reduction treatment?

Generally, all skin types are suitable for this treatment.

How does stretch mark & scar reduction treatment feel?

You may feel a warm, heating sensation but this is considered very tolerable by most people. We keep the skin cool during treatments ensuring treatment is more comfortable.

What can I expect after stretch mark & scar reduction treatment?

Your skin may appear red and flushed for a few hours after treatment.  However, our laser and light technology is unique and treats the tiniest section of skin in comparison to other similar lasers. Therefore, any redness or swelling is very minimal.  As the old skin tissue sheds, your skin may appear more bronzed or tanned for a few days after treatment. Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may flake as if you have mild sunburn.

How many stretch mark & scar reduction treatments will I need?

We often advise a series of 6 to 8 treatments for optimal results. Treatment is carried out every 4 to 6 weeks but your nurse will advise on the optimal frequency during your consultation.

Are there any side effects of stretch mark & scar reduction?

Side effects are rare but could include a small blister.  Any blistering is superficial and should heal within a week or two.

Consultation procedure

Prior to stretch mark reduction treatment, one of our qualified nurses will conduct a consultation and take your medical history in confidence to confirm whether you are suitable for treatment. This is also a good opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Before stretch mark reduction treatment commences you must provide your written consent.
